How I would teach a child to go from counting through their division facts
I was recently asked how I would take a young student through the following:
- counting
- addition through 20 or 50
- subtraction through 20 or 50
- times tables through 12x12
- division facts through 144/12
It's an interesting question because these skills are so critical to any sort of higher level math that a student wants to do. Higher level here means anything like adding fractions, solving algebraic questions or doing trig or pre-calc. These skills have to be automatic by the time you get to these high level subjects.
